Book launch ‘Fountains and Water Culture in Byzantium’

The Netherlands Institute in Turkey and the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul will be launching the book ‘Fountains and Water Culture in Byzantium’ on February 10. There will be introductions by Fokke Gerritsen (NIT), Johan Mårtelius (SRII) and Ingela Nilsson (Uppsala University).

From 29 September until 3 October 2015, Podium Mozaiek will be housing a multidisciplinary festival about the life, work and ideals of a great poet in exile: Nâzim Hikmet.

Theater RAST and REART Collective, in collaboration with Poetry Circle Nowhere and Agora Lettera and Podium Mozaiek, are organising a multidisciplinary festival around the life and work of Nâzim Hikmet (1902-1963). The programme will be about his poetry and literary work, his ideas, the image that the public has of him and his relevance to the present time.

The Past 100-years, Part 1: WdW Review Offline, is a conference that discusses the destabilizing wake, and subsequent geo-political reformations, that can be traced to the demise of two centuries-old Empires: the Ottoman and the Austro-Hungarian respectfully. Join them at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam on February 28 as they investigate how affect was marshaled to bind these two states together, sometimes in friendship, and other times as adversaries.

Exhibition - Aphrodisias

Aphrodisias is an exhibition of photographs of the ancient city of Aphrodisias in western Turkey.

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism enlisted the services of the cultural historian Wolter Braamhorst and the researcher Eray Ergeç to produce the travel guide Turkey: Where Europe Began, dealing with Turkey's main archaeological sites. For this exhibition, they selected several dozen of the photographs they had taken of Aphrodisias for this project.

Exhibition - Anna Frank - Diyarbakir

Diyarbakir Sümerpark Ortak Yaşam Alanı Çocuk Destek Merkezi is hosting the exhibition ‘Anne Frank – A History for Today’ which is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Turkish – English exhibition focuses on the story of Anne Frank, the Holocaust and the lessons to be learned from this tragedy.

The opening of the exhibition will be on the 29 September and it will be open for public until 1November 2014.
